The main center of Monteleone, which is
only 4 km from POGGIO DEGLI ULIVI, is dominated
by the Monteleone castle. This monument first appears in
written testimony in 1233, but certainly dates back to
much more ancient times, in which the castle was
inhabited by the Marchesi Guiccioli. It was here that
Marchesa Teresa Gamba and the English poet Lord Byron
lived out their dramatic love story, in virtue of which
the square in front of the castle was named after Byron.
•The
village has proposes various events. In collaboration with
the pro-loco, some highlights are the musical events during
the summer. In fact, there are classical and popular music
concerts held in the small town square in both July and
August..
•Worthy
of note is also the little “Azienda Agricola Tenuta Volpe”
farm specialties shop, again located in Byron Square, where
genuine farm products are sold ( olive oil, preserves, jams,
etc.), but also handmade local craftsman products, such as
the splendid Gambettola printed fabrics and original
handcrafts of “Il Telaio – tradition and culture of
Romagna”, produced using the most antique techniques of
weaving and seat weaving.
